How many meals do you eat in your car? If it’s more than two a day, you need to take a long look in the rear-view mirror and acknowledge this fact: you are on a perpetual road trip!
Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Grace Kelly seduced Cary Grant in “To Catch a Thief” with a sexy convertible, breathtaking location and a picnic basket packed with grilled chicken and beer. Somehow, I don’t think the effect would have been the same had she pulled through the drive-in window of the local burger joint….
Even if it’s only a beverage while you’re driving, you can do it up in style with a few key essentials. Add a fab scarf, and you’re already on your way to movie-star glam.
First, the right container for hot or cold beverages. For hot, choose a reusable ceramic cup that fits in your cupholder (critical) and also fits your personality. There’s a great assortment of styles and colors available today, complete with co-ordinating lids and sleeves.
For cold beverages, a double-walled cup with a screw-top lid and straw is essential. No more sweaty palms, as you try to avoid condensation drips and spills on your clothes. Double-walled cups keep cold drinks chilled for hours, or at least until the next outlet mall!
If you plan to consume more than a beverage, invest in an insulated tote and coated mat to keep things fresh and tidy. All color-coordinated of course.
Here on Cape Cod, beach parking lots fill up during the lunch hour even during the winter. Yes, you can enjoy a lobster roll, chips and soda while sitting behind the wheel gazing out at the waves in February, and not end up wearing your lunch! Always remember to be considerate of your fellow passengers and avoid smelly foods like onions and garlic. The folks at your next meeting will also thank you.
So next time you hit the road, pack up your picnic essentials and rock it like a movie star. And the Oscar for best picnic in a vehicle goes to…..you!
